Where can I stay in Nanoose Bay?
As there are not a ton of dedicated hotels, the best place to look for accommodations in Nanoose Bay itself is on crowdhosting websites like Airbnb and Vrbo.
Nanoose is about halfway between Parksville and Nanaimo, so hotels in either locale are a good option. Parksville is a little bit closer. We recommend Coast Parksville Hotel, it’s rated 9.2 on Expedia and rooms go for about $150 a night during that time (plus it’s right across from the mini-golf course 😍).
Will there be a shuttle from the venue?
Since we’ll have guests staying in a mix of locales, it’s not practical for us to organize a shuttle (we did look into it!) There is however regular taxi service from Nanoose to any location in Parksville or Nanaimo (trip cost between $40-50). There will also be a fair number of designated drivers heading in all directions, so let us know if you need a carpool and we will do our best to link you up with someone.
What’s the dress code?
We’re aiming for somewhere between semi-formal and formal. This is sometimes called cocktail attire. Basically, we want guests to feel like they can dress up if they want, but aren’t required to if they’d rather keep things more casual (just not this casual).
Additionally, there won’t be any official wedding colours to be worried about clashing with. Just don’t wear a white dress, ok? 💃
Where can I park at the venue?
There should be enough parking for everyone at the event. Please see this map to get an idea of where parking is located (please note that you can park in “Day Parking” on this map).
Will there be a marriage ceremony?
We’re having an intimate, “elopement” style ceremony with immediate family in the afternoon, before the reception, so for most guests they will be attending the reception only. But don’t worry, we will restate some of our vows before dinner and dancing for your delight and edification!
Will dinner be served at the reception?
Yes! There will be a mix of both canapes during our mingling hour, and a full hot meal served as part of the evening’s entertainment.
What’s for dinner?
We’re still working that out! But fear not, the venue is known for its masterful kitchen crew, and specializes in a variety of Western and Mediterranean style dishes. There will be options!
Will the bar tab be “open”?
Since we want everyone to relax and not have to reach for their wallets, there will be a healthy budget at the bar for our guests to enjoy. While it’s unlikely this will be exhausted, once it is guests should expect to pay a normal amount for drinks.
There will be a mix of beer, wine, and spirits on offer (as well as a couple of cheeky themed cocktails!), as well as the usual soft drinks.
I have a dietary preference or restriction, how should I communicate it to you?
When you followed the RSVP link on the wedding invite (the one you just received, not the save the date that went out in June) there should have been an option to send us information about your dietary needs.
If you already RSVP’d and weren’t able to submit this information, just send us an email to [email protected] or [email protected] and we’ll make sure your requirements are noted!
Should I bring a gift? Is there a registry?
While we appreciate the inquiry, we’ve been living in sin for many years already, so we’re pretty well setup for the kinds of things you find on registries!
Your presence is the only present we need, but if you feel inclined, a cash contribution to our very-old-house-always-needs-fixing fund would be incredibly appreciated!
Can I bring a plus one?
The number of invitations for your household should have been indicated when you received it–due to the usual budget and space limitations, we unfortunately weren’t able to invite everyone in our mutually large families and social circles! We appreciate your understanding and guarantee you will make new friends among the wonderful cohort in attendance.
Do I need to RSVP again?
We sent a Save-the-Date in May and have just sent the formal invitation. Thank you for responding to each–the most recent one will serve as your official RSVP for the event, as well as a means of communicating your dietary needs to us for the wedding meal. If you did not receive either of these and believe you should have, please reach out to us at [email protected] or [email protected].
